We've worked with Hector Lopez twice. The first time was as a first time home buyer and the second time was to refinance. Hector was excellent to deal with. He was prompt with responding to all phone calls, texts and emails. He provided us with several options, always keeping our best interests at heart. If you want someone who doesn't waste your time and will get the job done, Hector is the man to call. We look forward to working with him again on our new home purchase.

Working with Hector Lopez was the worst decision I made in my first time home buyers' journey. I was provided with a pre-approval certificate from Hector on the property I wanted to buy after sharing my down payment and financials. My offer was accepted on April 19. Hector ignored my calls, texts and emails for over a month, failing to provide any meaningful updates. In one instance I called the receptionist at this brokerage requesting a call back because he was just not replying. On the evening of May 31st (mortgage stress test rules changed June 1st making it more difficult to qualify for a mortgage) Hector called me and ever so casually told me that I needed to come up with a significantly higher down payment in order to secure the property and not lose the down payment I had already put down. He expressed no empathy, no apology whatsoever for his lack of professionalism that put me in the worst imaginable position for a first time homebuyer. He used a variety of personal excuses to justify his lack of communication and professionalism. My only advice out of this horrible experience should you decide to work with him is have a back up, insist on full transparency, set strict timelines and expectations from the start and don’t trust the so called ‘professionalism’ because there is none working with him.
The business development manager and managing partner at Get a Better Mortgage contacted me to get an understanding of the situation. I shared emails, texts and that turned out to be a waste of time because at this point I had under 2 weeks to secure a mortgage and all I got was hollow excuses and explanations on the work Hector had done. Ultimately, my story has a happy ending I ended up getting a mortgage with Scotiabank working with one of their mortgage specialists. There are people in the mortgage industry that care - Hector isn’t one of them.
